How to plan a group night out in Panama City: bachelorette, birthday or team

Ten friends, a birthday, a team that finally has a night off. Group nights in Panama City go wrong in the same three places every time: transport, timing and no reservations. Here is how to get all three right.

Start with the number

Everything follows from the headcount. Under eight, you can improvise. Eight to fifteen, you need reservations everywhere and one person in charge. Over fifteen, you need a private space or a venue that expects you, because no bar in Casco Viejo seats twenty walk-ins together on a Saturday. Lock the number a week out and tell every venue the real figure, not the optimistic one.

Pick one neighbourhood

Panama City's nightlife splits between the Banking District and Calle Uruguay on one side and Casco Viejo on the other. Pick one side and stay there. For a night with character, Casco Viejo wins. For clubs and late hours, the city side.

Solve transport before anything else

The single best decision for a group night is a private van or a driver for the evening. It removes the hardest part, moving twelve people from a hotel to a dinner to a bar, and it means nobody drives. A timeline that works

1. 6:30 PM. Meet somewhere with a view for the first drink. Everyone arrives, photos happen, latecomers catch up.

3. 9:30 PM. Move. Two or three bars, each different from the last, a short walk apart.
